It was another exciting Thanksgiving weekend for the Seabrook Island community with our annual events: Turkey Trot, Holiday Art Show, Holiday Parade, and Tree Lighting.
THANKSGIVING DAY
Turkey Trot – More than 400 runners and walkers showed up Thanksgiving morning for an 8:00am race start. Race shirts were sold out over a week before the race to the 300 people who pre-registered. A new race route took the runners off Seabrook Island Road into the interior of the island for the first half of the race.
FRIDAY
Holiday Art Show – From 11:00am to 4:00pm, the community had the opportunity to stroll through Live Oak Hall to view the talents of our Seabrook Island Artist Guild. Exhibitors showed fine art, fine crafts, and homemade crafts. The Guild raised $1,100 through donations, a percentage of sales from exhibitors, and a silent auction of a sweet grass basket. These funds will go to St. John’s Island High School to purchase materials and supplies in support of their art classes.
Holiday Parade – This year the goal was all parade vehicles decorated for the holiday. We met that goal at 100%. Stukie Valentine was the Grand Marshal and led the parade. Mr. and Mrs. Claus followed him. Next were all the vehicles, followed by our very own STJFD Station 2 fire truck.
Tree Lighting – What struck me most about this event was the number of families and children, from strollers to teens. We had over 400 in attendance. The SIC food truck was busy the entire time. SIPOA provided hot chocolate and wine. Grand Marshal, Stukie Valentine, lit the tree. Tommy and the Chucktown Players kept the music flowing. For the first time, people stayed until the band quit playing.
We have 2 winners in the 2024 Thanksgiving Photography Contest: Rick Heilman and Susan Soden!
MANY TO THANK!
Nic Porter and the Lake House staff. On Thanksgiving Day, the Lake House staff arrived around 6:00am to register the people who walk in, put out traffic cones, set up a water station, and get ready for the 8:00am race to start. By the time staff finishes it is well into the afternoon and turkey time. Then they are back at it Friday, from the usual Lake House exercisers, to the holiday market, to the parade, to the tree lighting, to clean up.
A huge thank you goes to the Communications team of Rhiannon and Kristen and the Communications Committee. We had an ambitious, detailed communications plan that spanned 4-5 weeks.
My next thank you is to members of the Activities Committee: Elizabeth Baker, Kevin Boyle, Denise Hix, Janie McMahon, Barbara Montagu-Pollock, and Michelle Wiedemuth. These Property Owners volunteer a lot of their time to this committee as well as other SIPOA committees.
See you Thanksgiving weekend in 2025!
