Charleston County Emergency Management is continuing to monitor the winter weather system that has started to impact the Lowcountry this weekend. We are currently under a Winter Storm Warning and an Extreme Cold Warning for our area.
According to the latest National Weather Service update, the Charleston area could receive approximately 3-5 inches of snow, while Awendaw-McClellanville may see closer to 4-6 inches, with snowfall continuing into early Sunday.
Windchills could be close to 0 degrees in some areas of the County. Coastal winds will also increase, with gusts of 25 to 40 mph possible tonight into Sunday. There is potential for black ice to occur starting Sunday night. Snow melting could occur tomorrow, but it could refreeze overnight causing black ice. This could also continue to happen through Monday.
The Seabrook Island Club and its amenities are closed through Monday, February 2.
We continue to encourage people not to travel. With the snow and high winds expected, local leaders say driving could become extremely difficult, especially at night over bridges.

SIPOA will be using a new service provider this year for trash, recycling, and yard debris pickup. Beginning on February 2, 2026, Sandlapper Waste will provide trash and recycling collection services on Seabrook Island. The collection schedule will be mostly the same, with yard debris collection being moved to Wednesday and Villa and Regime recycle pickup on Tuesdays. The annual collection schedule is attached for your reference.
January 26th will be the last day for trash pickup with our current provider, and they will be taking the trash carts away on this date.
Most carts will be removed on January 26th, but some may not be removed until January 27th.
Please make sure your trash cart is placed on the curb regardless of whether it has trash in it or not on January 26th.
New trash carts will be delivered during the week of January 27th.
The recycle carts will remain and will not be changed.
Regimes with trash corrals and/or backdoor service will have new trash carts delivered during the week of January 27th as well.
If your trash cart is not picked up by January 27th, please email trash@sipoa.org and provide the address and location of the trash cart.
The trash carts are 90-gallon size, which is the same size as the current carts. This is the only size trash cart that will be provided by SIPOA; however, residents are allowed to use their own cart if they prefer a different size.
ARC and the Town will suspend enforcement of trash carts being left on the curb during the week of 1-26-26. Please plan to have your new cart stored properly by 2-1-26.
The procedure for reporting any missed collection or requesting a new roll cart is still the same and all requests should be emailed to trash@sipoa.org.
Friday morning low temperatures will be cold across all of South Carolina. Temperatures will fall into the low 20s for coastal South Carolina. Right at the beaches (including the Charleston Peninsula), expect lows in the upper 20s.
Be sure to bring pets indoors, and take precautions for cold-sensitive plants.

When: February 9th at 2:00pm Where: Entrance to Oyster Catcher Parking Lot Why: Celebrate the Marsh to Breakers Trail
What is the Marsh to Breakers Trail?
This world class 1.2 mile loop allows walkers to experience a variety of Seabrook Island’s natural ecosystems in a very compact journey. You will enjoy maritime forest, hammock islands, interdune ponds, grasslands, shrub thicket, Kiawah River Estuary and the beauty of Seabrook Island’s North Beach — all within a compact trail just slightly over 1 mile.
The trail has three surfaces: paved, woods, and boardwalk. After beginning on a paved surface, the trail moves into the woods where it is more rugged with uneven surfaces and tree roots. The final surface is boardwalk. The trail is easy and suitable for children and dogs on leash but not recommended for strollers, bikes or wheelchairs.
If the weather is good and you still have energy, there are 2 optional beach walk add-ons to this trail:
Cap’n Sams Loop: Walk to the shoreline at the end of BW1. Turn left. Walk as far as you can to the end of Captain Sams Spit and return. Add an additional 1.8 miles to your walk. If it’s low tide, you may see our amazing local dolphins strand feeding!
Deveaux Loop: Walk to the shoreline at the end of BW1. Turn right. Walk to the seawall at BW7 and return. Add an additional 2.5 miles to your walk.
